015 - St. Jude and the Desperado

Mike and Alexandra talk about St. Jude and the surprising origins of his devotion, the well-known hospital named after him, and his also-overlooked companion St. Simon. They also mix a cocktail with a very unusual list of ingredients.

St. Jude: October 28th

Drink: The Desperado

2 oz. Patron Añejo tequila

¾ oz. sweet vermouth

½  oz. amontillado sherry

¼ oz. Cynar

1 orange twist for garnish

Pour all ingredients except orange twist into a shaker filled with ice and stir 40 times. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with orange.

Note: And for the record, the correct pronunciation of Cynar is SIGH-nar.

Mike’s newest book is out! Check out “Why We Kiss Under the Mistletoe: Christmas Traditions Explained” now!
